My 30 day challenge - Day 1
Today, like many of you, I started the EA Active 30 day challenge. I already have a Wii Fit, but my dedication to consistent exercising is anything but. I decided to try this because I have heard so much about it and as I do with everything else I do, I thought you might enjoy reading about how this completely inactive, lazy and out of shape mom does.
Day 1.
For those who did the challenge you know the exercises you did, but for those who didn’t, here they are for day 1. I have no idea how long each of these are.
- Walk and Run (long)
- Squats
- Run (medium)
- Targets 1 (boxing)
- Alternating Bicep Curls
- Bent Over Rows
- Inline Skating
- Alternating Side Lunges
- Squats
- Alternating Bicep Curls
- Targets 3 (boxing)
- Bent Over Rows
- Alternating Side Lunges
- Inline Skating
- Front Shoulder Raises
- Run and Walk (long)
So I would be remiss if I didn’t start at the beginning. This being an undertaking of mine it never happens the way I would hope.
So I got the kids ready for quiet time, DD down for a nap and the boys doing quiet things upstairs. I went to grab the only pair of exercise pants I have (I do my fit workouts in jeans, that’s how casual I am about this) and discovered that they were nowhere to be found. I searched in all my drawers, high in the closet, low under clothing put away from various moves and still nothing. I contemplated shorts, but as I had no interest in having the leg strap that doesn’t stay put on my bare legs I opted out of that, choosing instead to wear fuzzy fleece like pants that I typically wear as PJs.
I turned on the game, got myself a bottle of water and turned the ceiling fan up to medium, cuz I’ve heard this game makes you sweat quite a lot and I was already wearing fleece pants. I chose the 30 day challenge, set the exercises to low impact as if I could survive anything more and got started.
First exercise was Running. I put the nunchuk in the leg strap and got to walking in place. When it came time to actually run in place my trainer said I was too slow…I raised my legs higher, still too slow. I lifted my feet up off the ground much faster than a normal person I am capable of running in real life…still it complained at me. I finally decided to try a method my kids use when using the Fit. I have a 2 year old, 5 and 9 year old and none of them like running in place, it’s no fun. They get the Wii remote in their hands and run all over the room. So I tried that and discovered that if I run from the TV to the couch and back again I could get my runner to have the “perfect” display show up.
I’ve heard horror stories about squats and lunges but for me the squats were not terribly bad. I handled them fine and I think I could probably do them tomorrow (which if I remember correctly is more than likely the case). I have been spending at least one of my Fit exercises doing boxing so I think I did the Target exercises pretty well and I am not in any amount of pain as a result…yet.
The Bicep Curls, Bent over Rows and Forward Raises were a bit of a problem. Turns out the pitiful excuse for a stretch band (reviewers call it a glorified rubber band) with the knots that people complain about doesn’t start out with knots. I went over to get the band when it was time, took it out of the packaging and discovered that it was definitely a rubber band. In fact while I’m not entirely sure how to set it up and how the knots are tied, out of the package it is a piece of red rubber and two black strips of fabric. Since I didn’t want to slow down whatever pace I’d worked up so far I ended up doing all the band routines without the band.
The lunges were a bit much, I am not sure how I’m going to be able to handle day 2, Since that’’s the one the reviews say is the one that kills you. I may have to take out the intensive knee exercises or any because right now my knees don’t quite want to hold me up.
All in all I can definitely tell I worked out today…I can hardly wait to struggle through another day
Who knows, if I stick with it maybe I’ll be able to complete it.
Is anyone else doing this challenge? Let me know how you did. I’d love to hear stories of success or more struggles like mine
